Given this event’s rapid rise to fame, it has been able to attract a great number of punters from all around the world. This naturally means that online bookmakers have to carefully consider their Pegasus World Cup betting odds prices against the competition to avoid losing out on business. So, just as with anything else, it pays to shop around a bit and compare the prices on the market before you go ahead and back a selection. In our experience, though, William Hill have been known to offer some very solid prices for this event.
In both the years that the event has taken place the favourite has emerged as the clear winner. Results have shown, however, that some outside selections have managed to show – just something to remember when you’re thinking about which type of bet to place…

To add to this, the Pegasus World Cup officially became the world’s richest race for thoroughbreds in its inaugural year with a combined purse totalling $12million. In 2018 it grew even larger with the winner of the main event taking home a generous $7million, the second-place competitor $1.6million and the third $1.3million. 2018 saw a total of eight stakes races worth at least $125,000, with the total prize money valued at a whopping $17,225,000. This meant that for the second year in a row the Pegasus World Cup surpassed the Dubai World Cup as the world’s most valuable horse race.
The Story So Far
Pegasus World Cup betting proved to be a success in its inaugural year, with an estimated $15.68 wagered at the venue alone. The idea for the event itself was first conceived by Stronach Group founder and honorary chairman Frank Stronach. His vision was to put together a race that would allow great horses and trainers to compete in a high stakes event that would not interfere with the Breeders’ Cup, the Dubai World Cup, or the Japan Cup. The inaugural year proved a major success with the winner, Arrogate, laying down a new track record in the main event. The second-year again proved to be a success with the winner and Horse of the Year, Gun Runner, finishing in first place, seeing off Giant Expectations and West Coast in emphatic style.

As well as winning the Horse of the Year honour at the Eclipse Awards, Gun Runner also picked up the American Champion Older Dirt Male Horse award before retiring to Stud shortly after winning the Pegasus World Cup. The $7million winner’s purse took his total career earnings to almost $16million, making him the second-most-valuable North American thoroughbred of all time.
