These often come in the form of super-enhanced odds price boosts, i.e. extremely generous odds of 10/1 above for favourites to come first! Just a little heads up: operators such as Paddy Power and Coral have proven to be particularly good in the bonus department for this event.

Haydock Sprint Cup Betting Odds Levels

Given that this is such an important flat race you don’t have to worry about getting good value for money. Haydock Sprint Cup betting odds levels are as competitive as any other event, so bookies are always under pressure to keep their prices in check in order to attract first-time and experienced punters alike. In addition, the best odds guaranteed promise that all the horse racing betting sites featured on our site carry, ensure that you never have to settle for anything less than the very best odds price.

As far as odds trend go, it’s well worth mentioning that there hasn’t been a winner with a starting price of less than 7/2 in the last decade. The biggest starting price winner over the same period is 14//1, which was assigned to Regal Parade in 2009. Other winner’s prices have all been 10/1 or less, which shows that favourites don’t tend to fare too well in this one.

Some Interesting Facts

The Haydock Sprint Cup has a very high prize fund compared to the rest of the horse racing events in this series, and is the showcase event and the culmination of the three-day-long festival of racing at Haydock Park. Taking place in September toward the back end of the flat season, it is renowned as one of the last major events to take place before attention turns to National Hunt season. It is open to horses aged three-years-old and above, however, there are certain weight conditions that must be met. Three-year-olds must be 9st 1lb and four-year-olds 9st 3lb and there is a 3lb allowance for fillies and mares.

Other noteworthy races held across the three days are the Ascendant Stakes, a Listed event reserved for two-year-old horses, as well as the Super Mile, a Group 3 race for three-year-olds and above. These both carry pretty modest purses of £25,500 and £63,000 respectively and aren’t considered to be as prestigious as the Haydock Sprint Cup. This is an event that everyone comes out to see, the Group 1 thrilling sprint that draws massive crowds every year and has seen some real top competitors – most recently the British-trained filly, Quiet Reflection – go on to win the much-coveted top prize.

The Story So Far

Haydock Sprint Cup betting is a fairly new concept in British flat racing. The race itself was devised by one Robert Sangster in 1966 and saw its first running in the same year, but it has undergone a number of significant changes since then. For the first twenty years of its existence the first two furlongs of the six-furlong course was run over a slight bend; however, to attain Group One Status it had to run over six straight furlongs, so in 1988 new land was purchased and the straight course was extended to six furlongs, the same distance over which it is run today.

Whilst originally being sponsored by Vernon Pools (thus being referred to as the Vernons Sprint Cup), the race has swapped sponsorship partners of late and has been associated with some well-respected betting companies. Its long-serving partner was formerly Betfred, however, a new deal was signed with the British online casino brand, 32Red, in 2016, which is set to continue for the foreseeable future.
