The W J Haggas trained Ametist was third, with the two remaining placings taken by rank outsider Zozimus (100-1) and Fastnet Crown (33/1), who finished 3¾ lengths behind.
In good to firm conditions, the Class 2 win over 1m 1f was his first over the flat in five races this season. Bedouin’s Story last ran at Chelmsford City on 21 August, finishing sixth in a field of ten, 2¼ l behind Stylish Performer.
This year, his only other win came in the 1600m Longines Spirit Collection Trophy, part of the Dubai World Cup Carnival on 28 January. The victory takes the tally of his lifetime wins to five after the previous first-place finishes at York in 2019 (11/2 ridden by Gabriele Malune) and wins in 2018 at Newbury (5/1 ridden by Jason Watson) and Thirsk (4/6 ridden by Oisin Murphy).
Trainer Saeed bin Suroor said after the race: “We have been running this horse over a mile, and he always misses the break,”
“I thought running over nine furlongs could help him. I told Jamie to get him to relax, and that is his style – it was the right jockey for the right horse.”
“I thought he could do something today.”, he added.
Meanwhile, Saeed bin Suroor has said he intends to make a late call on which ParisLongchamp race Real World will run on Arc weekend.
The four-year-old has enjoyed a flying start to the season with a 100% success rate ridden by Marco Ghiani in all three races.
In June, he won over a mile at the Hunt Cup at Ascot in a field of 30 while priced at 18/1. In July, he won 1m 2f priced at 15/8 at Newbury. His last victory on Tuesday at York was over 1m 177y; he was priced at Evens for that race and is likely to be priced low, whichever race he runs in.
His trainer had considered saddling Real World in Friday’s Joel Stakes at Newmarket, but the 54-year-old decided instead to opt for reigning champion Benbatl, a wise choice as the seven-year-old recorded a new track record in defence of his title. Benbatl was priced at 13/8 in that race and won by ¾ l over Pogo (14/1 ridden by K Shoemark) and three-year-old Master Of The Seas (11/8 ridden by W Buick).
Real World choices at the weekend are the Prix Daniel Wildenstein or the Prix Dollar on Saturday.
The Prix Daniel Wildenstein is a Group 2 flat race run over a mile and is named after leading the racehorse owner and breeder who died in 2001. A horse has won the last two run-outs with the Al Asayl France owned, and Francis-Henri Graffard trained The Revenant winning the 2019 and 2020 editions.
The Prix Dollar is a slightly longer race at 1 mile and 1¾ furlongs, and just like the Prix Daniel Wildenstein, the last winner has taken consecutive races with the Jean-Claude Seroul owned Skallet, trained by Jerome Reynier winning the last two.
Both races offer the same amount of prizemoney (a purse of €200,000 with the winner taking €114,000).
